One-Day CEREC Crowns
At South Austin Dental, we have the expertise needed in fitting CEREC crowns for you. Crowning is a procedure commonly offered to patients who need to repair a tooth that cannot be fixed with filling. This includes covering cracked, broken or otherwise decayed teeth, as well as teeth which need aesthetic improvement. This can be a long process, but the newest CEREC technology allows us to fit a crown procedure in only one appointment.
What are CEREC Crowns?
CEREC is an abbreviation of the term Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic. While other methods involve lab made crowns, the CEREC uses computer-aided manufacturing to create a perfect crown. The first step we will perform if you go for this method is taking images of your teeth using CAD/CAM technology. The computer will then create a digital model of your damaged tooth using the CAD/CAM image. This will usually take only fifteen minutes. The crown is then shaded to match your other teeth.
All of these steps can be done in only one appointment. CEREC Crowns are made with ceramic material and can be used for the same teeth issues as a traditional crown. The only preparation step will be the teeth x-rays, our dentist will need to see if you will need a root canal.
Benefits of CEREC crowns
The main benefit of the CEREC crown is a natural feeling. Thanks to the use of 3D imaging technology it leaves no place for human error, delivering perfectly accurate crowns each time. Furthermore, you won’t see the crown poking out like you would with crowns that are metal. All in all, when it comes to aesthetics, these crowns are unmatched by any other traditional method.
Since the CEREC method is done in one sitting (usually under 2 hours) there is no need for temporary crowns. This is especially beneficial for those with sensitive and weak teeth.
The CEREC process is also preferable since it usually requires only one appointment with. They are as durable as traditional crowns, lasting between five and fifteen years. If you take care of your teeth properly, they could last much longer. What’s more is that CEREC crowns aren’t more expensive than traditional crowns.
How to Take Care of Your Teeth After the CEREC Crown?
A few days after the CEREC procedure, you can expect your crowned tooth to be more sensitive. In this period, you should avoid chewy and sticky foods as well as biting hard on the treated tooth.
Regarding oral hygiene, you should proceed to brush your teeth twice daily and floss at least once per day. In some cases, we will also tell you to use a fluoride mouthwash that will help you keep your teeth clean. You might also be recommended to use a specialized sensitivity toothpaste to help you with the teeth sensitivity in the primary period.
